Summer Term Highlights at Xiamen University: International Forum and Summer Schools on Modern Econom

This year's summer term at Xiamen University will feature four events for interested young scholars: the 2012 International Symposium on Risk Management and Derivatives from June 30 to July 1, jointly organized with University of North Carolina at Charlotte, USA; a Summer School on Econometrics, Finance and Experimental Economics from July 8-12; the 2012 International Forum on Modern Statistics and Econometrics from July 13-14; and a Summer School on Statistics from July 15-18. All three events will be jointly organized by Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), School of Economics (SOE), the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Econometrics, and the Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Statistical Sciences.
 
The 2012 International Symposium on Risk Management and Derivatives is a continuation of collaboration between Xiamen University and University of North Carolina at Charlotte, after the first symposium successfully held in 2009.
 
The 2012 Summer School on Econometrics, Finance and Experimental Economics focuses on fundamental theory and introduces students to the latest cutting-edge developments in the fields of econometrics, finance and experimental economics. The lectures are given by world renowned scholars and leading researcher in the related fields. The program welcomes applicants from graduate and post-graduate levels as well as young professors from China and abroad. Approximately 200 students can be accepted to the summer school, and certificates of completion will be jointly issued by WISE, SOE, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Econometrics, and the Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Statistical Sciences at the end of the session. The 2012 Summer School on Statistics, similar to the first summer school session, focuses on theory and frontier research and applications of modern statistical theory and methodology.
 
The 2012 International Forum on Modern Statistics and Econometrics takes place between the two summer school sessions and is the second time the forum has been hosted at Xiamen University. The purpose of the forum, which will consist of a series of workshops focusing on new developments and applications of statistical and econometric theory and methodology, is to promote research in modern statistics and econometrics in China and provide a platform for academic exchange between Chinese scholars and their international colleagues. A call for papers has been issued for the forum, inviting submissions of papers on related fields in econometrics and statistics.
 
The Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics specializes in high-quality graduate training, frontier research in modern economics, finance and statistics, and intensive international academic exchanges and cooperation. Since its inception in 2005, WISE has quickly ascended the rankings list of economics education and research in China. According to the Tilburg University Worldwide Economics Schools Research Ranking (2005-2009), Xiamen University ranks third in all of China on the basis of the number of publications.
