Xiamen University, located in the resort-like island of Xiamen in Southeast China, was founded 87 years ago by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, a well-known Oversea Chinese leader who lived in Singapore most of his lifetime. Thanks to the contribution of the late president, Professor Wang Yanan, who was a prominent economist in China and the Chinese translator of Karl Marx’s On Capital, economics in Xiamen University has been among the top programs in China. To modernize its economics education and research, Xiamen University has set up a research-oriented institute-- Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE). WISE focuses on high-quality graduate training, frontier research, and intensive international academic exchanges and cooperation. Having successfully recruited full-time 10 faculty members from abroad in the past three years, WISE is seeking this year to fill several faculty positions in all areas in economics and finance and at all ranks. Junior candidates are expected to have a Ph.D by August 2009 and evidence of promising research ability, and senior candidates must have a Ph.D and strong research records. Depending on the qualifications of candidates, salaries range from up to RMB 280K for a tenure-track assistant professor to up to RMB 600K for a chair professor, with a regular teaching load of 3 courses per year.
