Professor Cheng Hsiao, Professor of Economics, University of Southern California, USA and co-editor of Journal of Econometrics, has initiated his fellowship program “Tseng Hsiao Fellowship Foundation” at Xiamen University, which is named after Prof Hsiao’s father, the renowned land economist. This fellowship program is intended to support full-time XMU students who cannot afford their tuition fees and living expenditure.
Prof Hsiao has devoted his lifetime to econometrics research and teaching and established his own reputation in panel data econometrics. Ever since appointed as a member of academic consultancy committee and chair professor at the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), Prof Hsiao has given several courses and lectures which got an overwhelming response from students and faculties at WISE. From this year on, Prof Hsiao decided to donate part of his payment for the courses taught in XMU (amounted 40,000 CNY) as the start-up fund for “Tseng Hsiao Fellowship Foundation”. Meanwhile, Xiamen University will contribute the same amount of fund to support this foundation. Four scholarships are available for 3 undergraduate students (any program) and 1 postgraduate student (specific to WISE) with each 5,000 CNY pa.
Eligibility criteria of “Tseng Hsiao Fellowship Foundation” are subject to terms and conditions and the selection and management of this foundation is under supervision of Bureau of Students Affairs at XMU and authorized agent the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE).
Brief Introduction to Professor Tseng Hsiao
Prof Tseng Hsiao has his family root in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. He got his PhD degree from University of Berlin and became the initiator and organizer for Chinese land economics research and land policy analysis. From the year of 1932, Prof Hsiao had founded the Chinese Research Institute of Land Economics, the China Land Reform Association and Department of Land Management at Feng Chia University back in Taiwan. “Tseng Hsiao Assistantship and Fellowship Programs” are available in the Chinese Research Institute of Land Economics, the China Land Reform Association and National Taipei University.
