Invited by Prof. Steve CHING, University Librarian of City University of Hong Kong (CtiyU), Prof. Mingguang CHEN, University Librarian of Xiamen University (XMU), Prof. Guojin CHEN, Assistant Dean of Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), Prof. Xiaoqiong LAI, Assistant Dean of WISE and Prof. Xiaohong CHAO, Vice Dean of the Department of History, College of Humanities, XMU, have paid a visit to CityU in April 12th-14th, 2007, and have participated in the 4th OASP (Outstanding Academic Papers by Students) Task Force Meeting.
Along with the information technology progresses, the environment for academic researches and studies has now changed a lot. The OASP project aims to take full advantage of the network resources and platform, and aid the students with facilities of data collecting, references quotation and anti-plagiarism verification. Furthermore, the OASP project attempts to collect students’ outstanding academic papers, preserve them in digital format and share them with the OASP community. At present, CityU, Tsinghua University and Feng Chia University answer for the publication of the English version, the simplified Chinese version and the traditional Chinese version of the outstanding papers respectively.
The OASP Task Force Meeting started with the work reports of CityU, Tsinghua University and Feng Chia University. Then, Prof. Mingguang CHEN, representing XMU, highly commended the OASP as the “academic ladder for the students” and proposed the willingness to participate in the OASP project. Followed with his speech, Prof. Guojin CHEN and Xiaoqiong LAI, from aspects of research and education, delivered an introduction of WISE and the academic activities of the national nurture center for economic studies & training in the School of Economics, XMU. Finally, National United University, Taiwan and Seoul National University gave out their opinions on the project as well. Besides, the participants also discussed the matters of paper qualification, e-book publication and next year’s goals. On this meeting, XMU was accepted as a member of the OASP project, and from next year on, students of XMU would have a new platform to promote their potentials of academic researches.
Before the OASP Task Force Meeting, CityU had held an OASP Certificate Awarding Ceremony and over 30 outstanding students and professors had shared their learning and working experience in the academic field with the participants at the ceremony.
On the visit, Prof. Guojin CHEN and Xiaoqiong LAI have also been invited to the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and had communicated with the Department of Economics and Finance of CtiyU about the issues of collaborative researches and students exchange programs.
