On November 18-19, 2025, the second Xiamen University-Singapore Management University Econometrics Conference (2025 XMU-SMU Econometrics Conference) took place at the Economics Building of Xiamen University. A delegation of four scholars from Singapore Management University (SMU) attended the conference and engaged in in-depth discussions with researchers from XMU’s College of Economics. The conference featured keynote speeches by Professor Cheng Hsiao from the Department of Economics at the University of Southern California and Professor Jia Li, Dean of the School of Economics at SMU.
The conference consisted of five parallel sessions with a total of 16 presentations. Participants engaged in lively discussions on topics including microeconometrics, applied macroeconomics, artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, as well as time series and financial econometrics. During the sessions, Professor Cheng Hsiao, Professor Jia Li, and other attendees provided valuable comments and suggestions to the presenters.
This joint conference focused on recent advances in time series and panel data econometrics, as well as cutting-edge machine learning methods in the age of artificial intelligence. In the conference, latest breakthroughs in the identification, estimation, and inference of macro- and micro-econometric models were covered, and the integration of theory and empirical applications was emphasized.
