
On October 10-12, the Xiamen University Conference on International Development Experiences, jointly organized by the Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics, Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics and School of Economics at Xiamen University, supported by the journal China Economic Studies, was held at the Economics Building of Xiamen University.
The conference focused on cutting-edge research findings in the field of international development experiences. Nine distinguished speakers presented their works and/or comments, and they are Professor Nanak Kakwani from University of New South Wales, Dr. Emmanuel Jimenez from the Asian Development Bank, Professor John Gibson from the University of Waikato, Professor Peter Lanjouw from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Professor Yaohui Zhao from Wuhan University, Professor Shaohua Chen from Xiamen University, Professor Philippe Van Kerm from the University of Luxembourg, Ms. Teresa Munzi from Luxembourg Income Study (LIS), and Professor Qinghua Zhao from Xiamen University.
Apart from 8 keynote speeches, there are 3 invited reports, 7 parallel sessions, and a round table discussion themed “From Doorsteps to Data Centers: Bridging Surveys and Big Data”. During the conference, China Household Wealth and Consumption Report – Second Quarter 2025, a joint project of XMU College of Economics with Ant Group Research, was also launched.

Nearly 70 attendees gathered to exchange ideas and engage in in-depth discussions on topics including applications of LIS and other household survey data for analyzing income distribution, poverty and inequality, comparative studies using cross-country microdata, policy evaluation and assessment of social program impacts, consumption and savings behavior, data integration and methodological innovations, and inequality and poverty in China and other developing economies.
