Program Committee:
Xiamen University was founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, a well-known Oversea Chinese leader who lived in Singapore most of his lifetime. This is the first Chinese university founded by an oversea Chinese. It is located in the resort-like island of Xiamen in Southeast China, with convenient direct flights to major cities in Asia, such as Beijing (2.5 hours), Guangzhou (1 hour), Hong Kong (1 hour), Seoul (3.5 hours), Shanghai (1.5 hours), Shenzhen (1 hour), Singapore (4 hours), and Osaka (3.5 hours). Thanks to the contribution and influence of the late president, Professor Wang Yanan, who was also a prominent economist in China and the Chinese translator of Karl Marx’s On Capital, Economics in Xiamen University has been among the very top programs in China, with currently 5 state-rated key fields -- Accounting, Finance, Political Economics, Public Economics, and Social Statistics.
The Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics was established in 2005 and her main mission is to focus on high-quality graduate training, frontier research in modern economics, finance and statistics, and intensive international academic exchanges and cooperation. The MOE Key Lab for Econometrics and the Fujian Provincial Key Lab of Statistical Sciences were granted and set up in 2009 and 2010, respectively by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Fujian Province.
