WANG YANAN INSTITUTE FOR STUDIES IN ECONOMICS, XIAMEN UNIVERSITY, CHINA
Any field in economics (preferred areas but not limited to are experimental economics, econometrics, macroeconomics, finance, and statistics)
Xiamen University, founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, a well-known Chinese expatriate, is located in the resort-like island of Xiamen in Southeast China. Thanks to a remarkable Chinese economist Professor Wang Yanan, a former University President and the Chinese translator of Karl Marx’s Das Kapital, economics at Xiamen University has been and continues to be among the top programs in China. To further develop and promote modern economics, Xiamen University established a research-oriented and internationalized institute -- Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE) in 2005. The main missions of WISE are high-quality graduate training, frontier research, and intensive international academic exchanges and cooperation. Having successfully recruited about 20 faculty members from abroad in the past few years, WISE still has several faculty positions available in all areas of economics, finance and statistics at all ranks. Junior candidates are expected to have a PhD by August 2011 and have evidence of promising research ability. Senior candidates must have a Ph.D degree and a demonstrably strong research record. Dependent upon the qualifications of successful candidates, the range of salaries is from RMB 320K for tenure track assistant professor to RMB 600K for a Chair professor, with a regular teaching load of three courses per year. In addition, WISE provides a start-up research fund for the first three years. Additional graduate course(s) may be arranged with commensurate pay. All faculty members, regardless of their citizenship, enjoy a housing subsidy for the first six years, and Chinese citizens with residency in Xiamen have the option to purchase an apartment substantially subsidized by the Xiamen city government and Xiamen University (the market value of the subsidy is from RMB 600K to 800K). WISE provides other benefits including financial and administrative research support. Detailed information is available at the web site http://www.wise.xmu.edu.cn/english. WISE will interview selected candidates in Denver during the 2011 ASSA meeting. Interested applicants should send a cover letter with their curriculum vitae, samples of their research work, and three reference letters (including any teaching evaluations) before November 30, 2010.
