Professor Gregory Chow to give lectures on the Chinese economy

The world renowned economist and econometrician, Gregory Chow, professor of Princeton University, has greatly contributed to many areas of economics.  His publications include twelve books and over 180 articles.  Since the 1960s, he has been widely known for his Chow test on parameter stability, and he has made many significant contributions to dynamic economics using spectral methods and optimal control methods.  The Econometric Research Program at Princeton University was renamed the Gregory C Chow Econometric Research Program in his honor in 2001.
 
Professor Chow has always had a keen interest in the Chinese economy and was one of the earliest overseas scholars to study Chinese economic issues.  He has been an ardent supporter of the Chinese economic reforms and has actively advised on economic policy and economic education in mainland China. In order to widen and deepen peoples understanding about China, he has written Knowing China, his only non-academic book. His has also written several academic books about the Chinese economy including The Chinese Economy, published in 1985, Understanding Chinas Economy, published in 1994, and Chinas Economic Transformation, published in 2002. As one of the academic consultants to the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), Professor Chow frequently visits Xiamen University and WISE.
 
In the spring semester of 2009, Professor Chow will again visit WISE and the Economics Department of Xiamen University.  From February 16 to 28, 2009, he will give six lectures on the Chinese economy, emphasizing the application of modern economic theories and methodologies to economic issues in China.  The course is open to all students and young faculty members at WISE and the Department of Economics.  Other students and faculty members of Xiamen University with an interest in economics are also welcome to attend.  The schedule will be announced soon on the WISE website (www.wise.xmu.edu.cn/english).  Please check the website for more details before the course starts.
