Call for Papers
The financial crisis of 2007–2009 is the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression, and the demand for re-thinking on risk management is urgent.
In this context, Watson Wyatt, the top international consulting company, and
WISE, one of the best academic institutions in China, are cooperating on an essay contest on risk management. The purpose is to create a forum for Chinese scholars to present and exchange their ideas on these extremely important and challenging research issues. The contest will provide participants exposure to the latest research with the practical hands-on experience from a leading consulting firm in the world.
Paper in areas of risk management welcome, especially those addressing below issues:
· Crisis management: new approaches
· Risk-sensitive management – companies and risk management
· Planning for future risks and crises
· Risk management & human capital
· Risk management in an imperfect world – market imperfections and why it is important to take them into account in risk management
· Risk management & the environment
Requirements
· Authors of the papers submitted must be younger scholars (age below 35) or students (including graduates and undergraduates) from Chinese universities;
· One author may submit only one single-authored paper; the number of co-authored papers is not restricted;
· All papers are not allowed to be published before, and the full text or summary of winner papers will be published by Watson Wyatt after essay contest;
· Papers must submitted in PDF format (with title, abstract, full text, data and code); papers can be submitted either in English or in Chinese; if the paper is written in Chinese, an English version of the abstract are is required;
· A list of prize-winning papers will be released by Nov.30, 2009, on the event website and the authors will be notified by email.

Winners of the “Best Papers” are invited to present in the “A New Era for Risk Management” symposium, held in Xiamen University in December, 2009 (detailed schedule will be updated on), and discuss the latest issues on risk management with leading academia and business people in the industry. Winners will also be rewarded with “Watson Wyatt Youth Scholarship”:
First Place (One winner) RMB 15,000
Second Place (Two winners) RMB 10,000
Third Place (Up to Six winners) RMB 5,000
Lecture Series and Symposium
During September and December 2009, Watson Wyatt will organize 6 lectures on risk management topics in cooperation with 6 top universities in China. Keynote speakers for all lectures are Watson Wyatt high-profile consultants, who hold leading positions in the industry. Especially in cooperation with our long term academic partner WISE Xiamen University, Watson Wyatt will hold a symposium on new insights into risk management, opening to all youth scholars, students and the winners of “Watson Wyatt Youth Scholarship”, as an international platform for participants to exchange ideas with outstanding academia and leading consultants in relevant areas.
