Farewell Dinner
The WISE farewell dinner for graduates was held on 20 June 2014 with about 200 students and 30 faculty members in attendance. 289 students successfully graduate this June, including 17 from the Taiwan PhD program, 9 from the WISE PhD program, 14 from the WISE-SOE International Master’s Programs, 60 from the WISE academic and professional master’s programs and 189 from the WISE undergraduate double degree programs.
During the farewell dinner, excellent graduates were given awards for their academic accomplishments. Philip Nagele from the US received the 2014 Best Paper Award of the WISE-SOE International Master’s Programs for his paper “An Economic Analysis of Xiamen University’s Tourist Policy”. The 2014 Excellent Paper Award was given to Robar Jibrin from Jordan, for his paper titled “An Empirical Approach to the Determinants of Corruption Using Panel Data Analysis”.
WISE also gave every graduate a graduation mug, as a memento to remind them of the time they spent at WISE and the beautiful memories they share with their peers and professors.
Commencement Ceremony
Xiamen University held four commencement ceremonies at the Jiannan Auditorium on 20-21 June 2014 to celebrate the graduation of the 2014 class, which includes 4558 bachelors, 2817 masters and 295 doctoral students.
The graduates from WISE and SOE accepted their honors and shared the excitement of their academic accomplishments with their teachers, peers, families and friends on June 21.
During the ceremony, the university president and faculty representatives gave speeches to pay special tribute to the graduates for the efforts they have shown in earning their degrees. They suggested that the graduates express their gratitude to the professors, administrative staff, family members and friends for their support and help along the way; and welcomed the graduates to come back “home” whenever they feel tired. The alumni representative shared his experiences on pursuing his dream while impacting society in a meaningful way; and the graduate representative recalled some wonderful memories at the university and wished every graduates success in the years to come.
After the degree conferring announcement, students accepted their honors on stage and attended the turning of the tassel ceremony, which symbolized their transition from graduands to graduates.
