ZEW and WISE Co-hosted 2009 Labor Economics Symposium

On Dec 12th and 13th 2009,the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE) and the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) co-hosted the 2009 International Symposium on Contemporary Labor Economics (LABOR 2009). The meeting lasted two days and was held at the Economics Building of Xiamen University. The theme of this symposium is the labor market dynamics and the poverty problem.
 
The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) established in 1990 is one of the leading economic research institutions in Europe. In recent years, ZEW and WISE have been carrying out close bilateral academic activities in many aspects. Both of them decided to hold a regular annual international conference on labor economics from last year on.
 
Since WISE has been established, the 2009 International Symposium on Contemporary Labor Economics is the 4th annual international conference on labor economics. This years conference contains four keynote speeches and 15 sub-venues lecture topics that include discrimination, labor, education economics, poverty and income inequality, labor market-analysis, the wage gap with gender, Chinese immigrants, poverty and wealth, and labor market trends, labor costs and wages, the determinant factors of economic effects, the labor market issues of the developing economies, life satisfaction and the elderly economics, and so on. Nearly 50 scholars from the United States, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, South Africa and other countries and some other parts of China have done paper presentation on the workshop.
